Indeed Movies_#63 Arsenic and Old Lace

Welcome to episode #40 and to the list at 63..Arsenic and Old Lace (Frank Capra 1944)

Summary: Mortimer Brewster is a newspaperman and author known for his diatribes against marriage. We watch him being married at city hall in the opening scene. Now all that is required is a quick trip home to tell Mortimer’s two maiden aunts. While trying to break the news, he finds out his aunts’ hobby; killing lonely old men and burying them in the cellar. It gets worse.

Keefe, Paxton and Chris dive into a stage to movie classic where the dark humor never stops.   AS this is a foundation of this style of comedy, it is filled with amazing acting and quick one liners.   It’s to die for…..see what I did there…

Indeed Movies_#67_Sons of the Desert

Welcome to episode #36.  All the way at 67 it is the great Sons of the Desert (William A. Seitler, 1933)

Summary: So that he and Stan can sneak away to Chicago and attend the annual “Sons of the Desert” lodge convention, Ollie pretends to be sick, and gets a doctor (who turns out to be a veterinarian) to prescribe a long ocean voyage to Hawaii. Decked out in leis and strumming ukeleles, they return home only to learn that the ship supposedly carrying them has sunk. Their hastily- contrived tale of “ship-hiking” their way back cuts no ice with their wives, who’ve been at the movies watching a newsreel of the lodge’s convention parade, starring… guess who?

Join Keefe, Chris, Paxton as we jump right in to the tall tale of friends.   As well as big time husband abuse.   Actually, it’s the story of Paxton and Keefe, but they won;t say it out loud.

Indeed Movies_#69 Love and Death

Welcome to episode #34  .   In at #69 – Love and Death (Woody Allen, 1975)

Summary:  In Russia, Boris Grushenko is in love with his pseudo-intellectual cousin Sonja, who loves him since he too is a pseudo-intellectual, but she is not in love with him. Instead she is in love with his brother Ivan. But as Ivan doesn’t seem to return her affections, she is determined to marry someone – anyone – except Boris. If that person isn’t the perfect husband, then she has to find a suitable lover in addition. Boris’ pursuit of Sonja has to take a back seat in his life when he, a pacifist and coward, is forced to join the Russian Army to battle Napoleon’s forces which have just invaded Austria. Despite Sonja not being in the picture while he’s away at war, Boris’ thoughts do not stray totally from women. Although they take these two divergent paths in their lives, those paths cross once again as they, together, both try to find the perfect spouse and lover, and try to assassinate Napoleon.

Join Keefe and Chris and the large amount of silence when we look at the typical Woody Allen film.  If you brave the field of war and then watched this film….I am sure war is a better route to go.

Indeed_Movies_#71_The Royal Tenenbaums

Welcome to episode #32- #71 The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) directed by Wes Anderson

Summary:

Royal Tenenbaum and his wife Etheline had three children–Chas, Richie, and Margot–they were a family of geniuses and then they separated. Chas started buying real estate in his early teens and seemed to have had a preternatural understanding of international finance. Margot was a playwright and received a Braverman grant of fifty thousand dollars in the ninth grade. Richie was a junior champion tennis player and won the U.S. Nationals three years in a row. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbaums was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure and disaster. Most of this was generally considered to be their father’s fault. The tale follows the family’s sudden and unexpected reunion one recent winter.

Keefe, Paxton and Chris take a long…I mean very long journey into a film about a punchline.   That’s it…all about a joke.  You know what… forget it.  I am going home….
