Indeed_Movies_#54_Harold_and_Maude

Welcome to episode#49 as we look at the list of 100 sitting in the slot of #54 Harold and Maude (Hal Ashby, 1971)

Summary: Young adult Harold Chasen, solitary and friendless by choice, is obsessed with death, this fascination manifesting itself in him staging his own fake suicides, driving a hearse and attending funerals, even of people he doesn’t know, all to the chagrin of his exasperated wealthy mother with whom he lives. Mrs. Chasen is determined for Harold to be “normal”, including she sending him into therapy to deal with his issues and finding him a girlfriend through a computer dating service. It is at a series of funerals that Harold meets Maude, on the cusp of her eightieth birthday, she too attends funerals of strangers. Unlike Harold, Maude is obsessed with life – her own life to be more precise – doing whatever she wants to please herself, damn what others may think or how they may be affected. Since she can’t take material possessions with her whenever she goes, she is more interested in experiences, with whatever material possessions she has – often “borrowed” without asking.

Chris and Paxton try to understand this film about one young man coming of age with a woman at the end of hers.  Keefe had the right idea and ran away… but we are committed.   Or will be committed…

Summary: A colorful array of characters compete at a national dog show.
The owners (and handlers) of five show dogs head for the Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show. A film crew interviews them as they prepare for the trip, arrive at Philadelphia’s Taft Hotel, and compete in the show. From Florida come the Flecks: she keeps running into old lovers. A wordless ancient in a wheelchair and his buxom trophy wife who may have a thing for the dog’s handler own the two-time defending best in show, a poodle. From the piney woods of N.C. comes a fella who wants to be a ventriloquist. High-strung DINKs feud loudly in front of their Weimaraner. Two outré gay men from Tribeca round out the profiled owners. The dog show brings out the essence of the humans. Who will be best in show?

Keefe, Chris, and Paxton bring you the amazing tale (tail) of a story about show dogs.  Actually, that would have been better.  For now, you get their owners.  Have fun with that.  Bow Wow, Ruf!

Summary: Raised in the African bush country by her zoologist parents, Cady Heron thinks she knows all about the “survival of the fittest”. But the law of the jungle takes on a whole new meaning when the home-schooled 16-year old enters public high school for the first time. Trying to find her place between jocks, mathletes, and other subcultures, Cady crosses paths with the meanest species of all – the Queen Bee, aka the cool and calculating Regina George, leader of the school’s most fashionable clique, the Plastics. When Cady falls for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels, though, the Queen Bee is stung – and she schemes to destroy Cady’s social future. Cady’s own claws soon come out as she leaps into a hilarious “Girl World” war that has the whole school running for cover.

Indeed_Movies_#58_Zelig

Welcome to episode# 45 as we hit  #58 on the list: Zelig (Woody Allen, 1983)

Summary: Fictional documentary about the life of human chameleon Leonard Zelig, a man who becomes a celebrity in the 1920s due to his ability to look and act like whoever is around him. Clever editing places Zelig in real newsreel footage of Woodrow Wilson, Babe Ruth, and others.

Keefe and Chris bring you a Woody Allen film that didn’t totally gag us.   Great visuals, and interesting story.  I can say a somewhat positive viewing..oh and Woody doesn’t talk in the film very much…..which my be a cause to celebrate.
